Thursday 12th December, Today I recorded some of the demos for this project to compare against each other. For this recording session, I used the vocal recording booth in C42 to record these demos of the acoustic guitar. The microphones I have used for this recording is the Shure SM57 and the sE 2000. I used the SM57’s in a stereo pair and in mono. This gives me the option to compare the clarity of recording in stereo compared to mono. I also recorded using the sE 2000. This microphone is a large diaphragm condenser. This is ideally used on vocals and acoustic guitars. The results from these recordings show that recording in stereo, produces a much better quality recording compared to mono. From these test results, I believe the recording of the 2 SM57’s in stereo was the best quality recording. I will be looking into this more, and investigating with other microphones and recording different instrument to compare. I will be doing this next week, during my lesson. I will be testing the recording with 2 large diaphragm condenser microphones. I predict this will have a warm and rich tone, and will provide the best quality recording out off all of them. I will also be testing the pencil microphone, which is a small diaphragm condenser microphone. I predict this will have an empty and slight tone. I think this will lack the depth and richness that the large diaphragm will have.
