Reverb:
Reverb is created when a sound or digital signal is reflected causing numerous reflection to build up and then decay as the sound is absorbed by the surfaces in the space. (which could include: Furniture, people and air.) Reverb can be artificial effect put onto the recordings to make them sound more natural and to give them more space in the mix. Reverb is an essential part of mixing as if you are purely mixing the dry signal only it would sound very unnatural. In Logic Pro X, I use the 'space designer' plugin as i find this the most realistic and natural sounding plugin that logic offer.
When I am mixing ambient effects, I place the plugin in its own 'bus send' and use the 'sends' on each specific channel to add in the effects. I do this for both reverbs and delays as I find they sound more natural, This also give you the opportunity to increase or reduce the level of the effect coming through into the send.

Delay:
Delay is an audio signal processing technique and an effects unit which records an input signal to an audio storage medium, and then plays it back after a period of time. This effect is often used by guitarists and other instrumentalists to create a thicker, richer tone. It is a common effect to be seen on a guitarists pedalboard.
