Personal Practice update

Since September I have been practicing on both the guitar and the Piano to improve my confidence on them. I have been teaching guitar lessons now for a short while and it has helped me to improve as I have had to think about the basics which I did a long time ago and explain them in simple form, This has helped me to understand myself the knowledge that I haven’t done for a long time. On Piano I have tried to focus on learning Major scales and now I can improvise in most of the major keys which is great for composing and playing with other artists and musicians. I have also worked on improving my repertoire as a musician and have finished songs that I have previously started. I am now doing piano gigs for small events for when people are coming into the dining room etc. I have one planned for the 5th of December 2018 in a school in Farnham Royal, where I will be playing a selection of classical and more sing along songs for a short set. This has helped me to build confidence in playing songs and building a larger range of songs that I can perform. I started playing Piano in November of 2017 and I have made good progress in the time I have been playing as I have practiced lots when I get home. Since, I am now learning my second instrument it’s important that I don’t forget the guitar and I keep the skills going as I still want to improve and get better on both instruments. I have gone back to the basics to basics on the guitar as there was a lot that I missed out on when I learnt the basics. For example: scales, modes and arpeggios all of which I never focused on, at the time when I was learning the guitar I was very young and never put in the effort to learn these things as I never thought they would be so important. So as a result I am going back to the basics and filling in my knowledge.

So far I have practiced the C major scale and have tried to incorporate it into my guitar playing. I am also trying to improve my repertoire on guitar. The most recent song I have learnt was ‘Another brick in the wall’ by Pink Floyd. I hope to build this up even more. I have aspirations of being able to playing lead guitar and play guitar solos which is currently what I really struggle with and I think it’s due to my lack of theory knowledge.
